LET DECEITFUL POLS NOW TRY TO CLAIM THAT A PROMISE WAS NEVER MADE!

The Promise

You raised the rate to five-point-seven, you said it wouldn't last.
And since you made that promise, ten taxing years have passed.
You said you'd take us back to five, then raised the rate again.
We hoped you'd keep your word to us, and still we wonder when.

Your leaders say no pledge was made, yet evidence is clear;
They say that five-point-seven-five will be the rate next year.
They say that other taxes fell, that somehow we're repaid,
But other tax cuts didn't keep the promise that you made.

We didn't ask for tax breaks for a very favored few.
The personal exemption hike was very overdue.
The "unearned income" tax rate should never have been high.
The silly service tax was gone before the ink was dry!

We have to laugh, we see the joke, we thought you'd keep your word;
Because the surplus lately has really been absurd.
Our faith in you was growing, our hope was still alive.
And then you pose a token cut to five-point-seven-five?
