Citizens for Limited
Taxation's
2013 Legislative Ratings
Basis for CLT Legislative
Rating — 2013 Session
Citizens for
Limited Taxation rates state legislators on direct and indirect
taxpayer issues for which there were roll call votes.
During the 2013 session we counted votes in both branches on
illegal aliens receiving in-state tuition; requiring Social
Security Numbers for public housing; engrossment and acceptance
of the conference committee report on the transportation bill
and its tax increases; eliminating the Consumer Price Index
trigger on the gas tax increase; preventing the three cent gas
tax increase, and; removing the “software tax” from that bill.
We also counted the vote against engrossment of the Affordable
Care Act.
We also tallied votes taking fraud examinations away from the
Department of Transitional Assistance; requiring the state
Auditor to perform a Department of Transitional Assistance
audit, and; stopping “self-declaration” of residency for welfare
benefits.
The House tried to strike the cigarette tax increase, as well as
reduce the sales tax from 6.25 to 5%, and require a two-thirds
vote for any tax increase – all to no avail. The Senate voted
not to hike the gas tax to 29 cents, but did vote to hike the
underground gas tank storage tax, as well as to raise the
minimum wage.
