On Oct. 2, the Education Intelligence
Agency, a national and state-by-state teachers union
watchdog organization, reported:
"Flush with cash from its newly imposed $5 national dues increase, the National Education
Association began spreading the wealth around ... $350,000 to the Massachusetts Teachers
Association to defeat two measures, Question 4 and Question 6."
Last Friday The Campaign for Massachusetts' Future filed its report with the state Office of
Campaign & Political Finance.
It reported no contribution from the National Education Association.
It did report a contribution of $425,000 from the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
If national group A donates to state group B, which then turns over the money to ballot
committee C, doesn't group A's money need to be reported -- or can it simply be laundered
through group B and avoid full disclosure?
$350,000 is a pretty impressive amount of cash to allow its source to remain hidden, especially
if it's been intentionally washed and spun dry.
