*** Promise Update ***
Thursday, February 5, 1998
Greetings:
We have a court date!
Next Friday, February 13th, we are scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in Middlesex Superior Court,
where Attorney Steve Epstein will present our challenge of some 1,600 - 2,000 signatures -- *whatever
we have by then* -- which we contend should have been certified.
The defendant in our challenge is Secretary of State William F. Galvin, whose office is charged with the
official count of certified petition signatures, and with transmitting our petition to the clerk of the House
of Representatives -- which he has yet to do. (We will also request that the court order him to
immediately do so.)
The teachers union and TEAM also will be presenting their case that day to have the court hear their
challenge to knock off more signatures than the 437 granted to them by state Ballot Law Commission.
We *must* have in our possession all signatures which we intend to challenge *NOT LATER THAN*
next Tuesday (February 10th) evening -- and we will need to present them to the court on Friday
morning.
IF YOU'VE VOLUNTEERED TO WORK ON OUR PETITIONS and help try to find signatures that
*should have been* certified but weren't, TIME HAS ALMOST RUN OUT!
If you don't get the job done and your results to us by next Tuesday evening -- we'll we've been there
before, not so long ago as to forget the result. Need I say more?
PLEASE don't let us down . . . WE NEED EVERY GOOD SIGNATURE YOU CAN FIND. (Boy,
doesn't *that* statement ever sound like deja vu!)
Thanks much,
Chip Ford --
