Calling All Activists!
"Now is the time to come to the aid of your countrymen"!
Weve reserved 18 malls with the option of two more.
Yesterday I confirmed all reservations with the mall management. Weve got 18 volunteer mall coordinators trying to organize their teams for this weekend. Mall petition packages and signs will be going out to all coordinators via Federal Express today, or delivered by Chip Faulkner tomorrow and Friday.
We are short of volunteers (at most malls) who can or will give up a few hours of their time this Saturday and/or Sunday.
If need be, our mall coordinators will stand alone at most of our tablesif we cant find a few good men and women to pitch in and help them cut your taxes.
Were especially shorthanded in Essex County, at the Square One, Liberty Tree and Northshore Malls.
Were dropping the Hampshire Mall, as we were unable to find a coordinator in the Hadley/Hampshire County areaand if we cant find volunteers in Berkshire County, will be dropping the Berkshire Mall in Lanesboro/Pittsfield, as well.
Well have to make our final decisions later today and notify the malls we drop, so if you can help out at any of the following mallseven for a few hoursover this weekend, please *immediately* call one of us at the following numbers:
(617) 248-0022 [Chip Faulkner]

Reports praise tax cuts
By Bernard J. Wolfson
Bay State tax cutters were out in force yesterday, trumpeting the benefits of slashing the states take
of salaries, wages and investment income.
Lexington-based Standard & Poors DRI released a report claiming that a pending bill to phase out the states 12 percent tax on investment income would create 28,000 new jobs and produce $2.4 billion in new personal income by the year 2007.
Suffolk Universitys Beacon Hill Institute said a ballot initiative to cut the standard income tax from 5.95 percent to 5 percent by 2001 would create 105,281 new jobs and $4.9 billion in new wages and salaries.
But Jim St. George, executive director of the Tax Equity Alliance for Massachusetts, said that with both proposals there would be losers, not just winners. "Youre going to pay for it either with higher taxes somewhere else or with less services."
The proposed investment income tax phase-out would cost the state $260 million in lost revenue by 2003, according to the DRI report. The income tax cut to 5 percent would cost nearly $1.3 billion, according to the Beacon Hill Institute.
