Secretary of States (Unofficial) Running Totals
Greeting activists;
The Commonwealth has established a computerized certification process between each city/town clerk and the office of the Secretary of State. This system was in place during our Coalition for Payraise Repeal petition drive, but apparently was not completely functional. As our News Advisory to the State House press corps earlier today indicated, the numbers could be and were either incomplete, misunderstood, or manipulated.
We understand from most of the city and town clerks that the system is more reliable today and that most if not all clerks are using it. Judy Langone, who runs the project at the Secretary of States office, assured me on Friday that the system is up and functioning well. This is yet to be seen, but from it we have been receiving preliminary results of the ongoing signature certification process.
Please appreciate that this is but a snapshot of an ongoing process that by law isnt required to be completed by the clerks until 5:00 PM on December 1st. Also, we make no claims as to the accuracy of these preliminary numbers; they are the numbers available at the specific time and date noted, according to clerks providing us with access to this new system.
Our official numbers will not be available from us until we physically count each signature on every petition ourselves, once our drivers bring in all the petitions from the 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth on December 1st - 2nd.
The Secretary of States Elections Division will recount our signatures on December 3rd, then announce the official and legal totals.
Chip Ford
