ONLY * 6 * DAYS LEFT !!!

Before the Wednesday, November 19th Petition Drive Deadline with the City/Town Clerks

--------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Promise Update ***
Thursday, November 13, 1997

Greetings CLT&G activists:

Can you believe it? For the *fourth weekend in a row* the weather forecast is calling for more rain (and maybe even snow!), starting late Friday and going through Sunday!

This incredible adversity that defies all odds makes every signature you've already collected, every single signature you still can possibly gather in the few remaining days, all that much more critical as we run out of time.

This week we at CLT&G have been working around the clock gearing up for the intensive deadline delivery. All our volunteers drivers, who will be delivering petitions to hundreds of city and town clerks around the state, are warming up their motors. They hit the road on their designated routes the first thing this coming Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow (Friday) we will be mailing out from the Boston office the odds-and-ends "strays" to clerks in many of the smaller towns in counties west of Worcester County, where we haven't received enough signatures to warrant sending out a driver. While we won't be sending a driver, every single signature is critical, so in the petition package we'll also enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to each of the clerks, to insure a timely return of the certified petitions.

If you still have any signatures in Worcester County or east which you need *us* to deliver for you, the following opportunity is available:

On this coming Monday (November 17th), Barbara and others will be staffing a conference room at the Newton Marriott Hotel, on Route 30 just off the junctions of Route 128 and the Mass. Pike. We will be there from 9:00 AM until we're done sorting every petition that needs to be delivered the next morning -- probably until 8:00 or 9:00 PM.

IF YOU HAVE *ANY* PETITIONS THAT YOU CAN'T GET TO A CITY OR TOWN CLERK YOURSELF before the Wednesday deadline, GET THEM TO THE NEWTON MARRIOTT on Monday and we'll deliver them for you. If you can't get them to us yourself, call me *RIGHT NOW* at (508) 538-3900, and we'll try to arrange for someone to pick them up from you and get them to us.

Many of our drivers will join in the massive job of sorting many hundreds of petitions into hundreds of city and town packages, and will take their route packages with them when the sorting is done and they leave on Monday evening. The remainder of the packages will be picked up by the rest of our drivers early Tuesday morning and will be on their way to the clerks.

Remember, 5:00 PM on this coming Wednesday is the drop-dead deadline for turning in petitions to city and town clerks (except for the City of Boston, which has an additional five days). Make sure you don't miss that all-important deadline with *any* petitions you still have in your possession. If you show up at the clerk's door at 5:01 PM or later, all your work and the signatures WILL NOT COUNT!

EVERY SINGLE SIGNATURE IS GOING TO BE CRITICAL !!!

Thanks much folks for all your help in this drive.

In SIX DAYS it'll be all over but for the counting. . .

Chip Ford --
