Tank the Gas Tax
— Again
Apparently Rep. Pignatelli (D-Lenox) didn’t read the results from the four
questions that appeared on the Massachusetts ballot in 2014. He would have
discovered that Question 1, which tied gas tax increases to the CPI, was
defeated 53% to 47%. This, despite the fact that opponents of the increase were
outspent 30 to 1.
Yet the Lenox Democrat has the audacity to introduce a local option bill raising
the gas tax by three cents. We know the Representative is tone-deaf when it
comes to the taxpayers; his latest CLT taxpayer rating of zero can attest to
that. However we at least thought he would accept the results of a statewide
ballot -- 15 months ago.
Considering he represents 20 communities and some may accept local option and
some may not, Rep. Pignatelli will create options for drivers that hurt some of
his communities and benefit others.
Leave the gas tax alone.
