Ode to Joy
Governor Baker’s FY 2017 budget proposal
Governor Baker’s 2017 budget proposal is sweet music to the ears of the
taxpayers. Twice in one week themes of fiscal restraint ring from both the
Governor’s state of the commonwealth address and today his FY 2017 budget
proposal. No longer are annual refrains of the need for new taxes or increased
revenues crooned by a Massachusetts Governor.
Instead we get lyrics like “avoid tax increases” in the Governor’s budget
message to the Legislature. Especially cherished are themes like “eliminating,”
“belt tightening,” and “level funded.” These phrases were missing from the
previous administration’s chorus for years.
Citizens for Limited Taxation applauds the Governor for his focus on fiscal
responsibility to start off the year. We look forward to his plans to reform and
reverse the irresponsible ways state government operates in the months ― and
years ― ahead.
