Since the nation fell
down the rabbit hole a few months ago, we have seen
people around the country, many of whom have not
been politically active before, trying to find a way
to influence events. Massachusetts of course is in the midst of
one of its regularly scheduled fiscal crises
(overspend high taxes in good economic times,
leading to trouble in next recession; cut services,
raise taxes, start over).
The latest data from
the Tax Foundation shows Massachusetts per
capita state and local tax burden is 5th in the
nation. Tax
Freedom Day – the day we start working for ourselves
and not the federal, state and local governments –
is April 16th. This does not count what we each owe
as part of the national debt, state debt, and
unfunded liabilities.
The Tax Foundation
reports that the national average Tax Freedom Day is
today, April 13th. Massachusetts is three days
later, 7th latest state in the nation.

This being April, many
taxpayers’ fancy turns to thoughts of tea parties. Several events have been planned by various
groups in Massachusetts and CLT’s associate
director Chip Faulkner will attend and speak at
three of these events. "What I'm planning at this point is to attend
and speak at the Boston Tea Party, then take the
train back home. I'll head west to attend the Worcester Tea
Party in late afternoon and from there head up to
Lowell to speak at the Sandi Martinez Tea Party in
Lowell around 6:30/7:00 PM."
As executive director
of CLT’s political action committee, Chip Faulkner
will focus on the need to regain control of our
government through its new campaign, "No Re-election
for Tax Hikers." And because of his association with
Americans for Tax
Reform, he will talk about Grover Norquist’s
"Leave Us Alone" coalition and the "No New Taxes"
pledge.
