2021 Petition Drives Information

It’s petition drive season in Massachusetts and CLT has agreed to help get signatures on two of them (with a third optional, entirely your call).

The first, which drew CLT into this process, addresses Gov. Baker’s unilateral decision to enroll Massachusetts in a “multi-state compact” called the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI), claiming the power to impose this gas tax on his own without legislative approval.  For almost two years we have been working with an anti-TCI coalition of other grassroots groups in the dozen affected New England and Atlantic coastal states to stop it.  Only Massachusetts of the dozen states has committed to this hidden gas-tax scheme but Baker intends to move ahead, alone if necessary.  We continue to fight to stop what New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu termed at its outset “Baker’s Boondoggle.”

The best way at this point to defeat it is The Petition to Repeal the TCI Gas Tax — designated by the Secretary of State as Petition M.  You can find its summary below.

The second petition, which only makes common sense — yet is vehemently opposed by the Democrat super-majority in the Legislature that refuses to consider it legislatively — is called A Law to Require Voter ID — designated Petition F.  Its summary can also be found below.

There is a third petition available, sponsored by some of the people who are helping collect signatures on the above first two, but is likely to be perceived by some as more controversial.  CLT officially neither endorses nor opposes it.  CLT has never been involved in social-issue petitions so the “Born Alive” petition [designated Petition N] won't be included in the package being mailed to all CLT members, both current and lapsed.

All three petitions and their respective FAQ pages — including the third for those who may be interested in it — are available for download and printing below if you so choose to print, sign and/or circulate any of them.  The instructions for all three are the same.

If you print your own petitions, please be absolutely sure to carefully read and comply with the most important document of all Instructions for Petitioners — or your entire page of signatures could be disqualified for one small mistake and none will count, collecting those signatures will have been a complete waste of your time.

The rules for petitioning are incredibly strict no exceptions.
